Marvel at the rugged peaks of the Andes and Argentino Lake as you drive along the famous Route 40. When you reach El Chalten – considered the trekking Capital in Argentina – you’ll get to enjoy a range of independent or guided hiking trails within this scenic area. A boxed lunch is also included to help fuel the adventure.
This expedition begins at 09:00 am. at El Calafate town.
Taking the mythical Route 40 bordering Lake Argentino, you will cross the Santa Cruz River – here you’ll rejoice listening about Darwin’s experiences with the Fitz Roy going up this river.
You will continue to La Leona River, where you will travel along its canyon for 1 hour 15 minutes, up to the old highway hotel Paso Leone (almost a museum of Route 40). At this point you’ll have coffee with homemade cakes.
Continue the expedition bordering the Viedma Lake – having the magnificent views of the Andes Mountain Range – including the Fitz Roy and the Tower.
Before arriving at Chalten town, you will stop at the Viedma Glacier viewpoint from where you will appreciate a beautiful view of the Glacier, the Cordillera and the emblematic Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre.
You’ll arrive to the mountain village of El Chaltén after 3 hours, having traveled 220 kms. At this point you can start free walks on the auto guided trails that leave from El Chalten and take you to the most beautiful viewpoints of Fitz Roy or Cerro Torre (Laguna Capri, Mirador Torre, etc), for which you will be advised on the different options depending on your physical condition and you will be given maps of the enabled paths.
Around 06:00 p.m. passengers will have to descend to El Chalten where everyone will meet to travel back to El Calafate.
