Kau Tapen lodge – “House of Fishing” in the Ona language, is the first and absolutely foremost lodge on the Rio Grande, Tierra del Fuego province.

At Kau Tapen you’ll fish for Sea-Run Brown trout weighing an average of 7 lbs and ascending to 30+ lbs.

Impeccable accommodations and service, plenty of elbow room on the Rio Grande river, a mix of the world’s best local and international guides to make sure you experience the local knowledge with world class technique. Guides rotate each day so you learn and enjoy more, selected vehicles and equipment and enviable fishing records since 1984.

Hosting only 10-12 anglers weekly, Kau Tapen has the distinction of being the matriarch sea-run lodge on the Rio Grande, cradling over 80 famous pools on her serpentine river banks. Anglers are offered 2 or more beats daily, affording a pleasantly daunting amount of water to fish exclusively.

Each week starts with an evening warm up session, most anglers will catch a trout or two the first night they arrive.

Unlike some anadromous fish, these sea-runs ascend the river in multiple pushes, not in 1 or 2 set runs, so fishing is productive all season. The serpentine nature of the river enables guides to use the famous winds to angler’s advantage presenting swung flies to the world’s largest sea trout. It is not all sinking line dredging-many trout are caught on floating line and even floating flies each season.
